Zone Alarm 7.0.337 And Outlook Crashes
a pop-up which appeared saying:
ZoneAlarm Analysing E-mail
Zone Alarm by Check Point
Zone Alarm Security Suite
Junk E-mail and Anti-Fraud Filter
Powered by Mail Frontier
There was a progress bar on it, but nothing happened. And right behind it was another pop-up, which said:
"ZoneAlarm – Outlook
Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."
It then goes into standard Microsoft error messages – if you click on the report it says:
Name: Outlook.dmp
Description: Crash Dump
Type of file: DMP file.
What I normally do in these cases is uninstall the software. Which I did. Luckily I had an older version of Zone Alarm and I tried to install that one. But aha! Not so easy. I got another error message "zpeng24.dll" not found and the following text: "Setup is unable to log into the TrueVector service. Install cannot continue without logging into the TrueVector service. Please use the service manager to shut down the TrueVector service and then restart the installer program."
After an hour of searching, I have a solution, which I wanted to share (it's a combination of various sources, but mainly this one). Do the following and all will work. To get rid of the "zpeng24.dll" error, go to Start > Search > Files and Folders. Make sure the location box is set to search your Local Hard Drive (usually C:\ ) or All Local Drives. Also make sure the Advanced Search Options are set to search subfolders and hidden files. Now copy the entire line below, paste it into the search box and click Search Now.
Zonelabs; "zone labs"; "Internet logs"; vsconfig.xml; vsdata.dll; vsdata95.vxd; vsdatant.sys; vsmon.*; vsmonapi.dll; vsnetutils.dll; vspubapi.dll; zaplus.*; zapro.*; **bleep**.dat; zlparser.dll; zonealarm.exe; zoneband.dll; vsutil.dll; zlclient.*
A list of files and folders belonging to ZoneAlarm will appear in the Search Results pane. Note: if you’re using McAfee software be sure to check the vsutil.dll if found: right click the file and choose Properties. Verify it belongs to ZoneLabs. If it does not belong to ZoneLabs do not remove or delete this file. Now delete all the ZoneLabs files and folders that were found. Then empty the Recycle Bin.
Now reinstall ZoneAlarm (the newest version). And here is the key. Because, if you do not have access to safe mode to Outlook, before you "reboot" your system, make sure to disable the Zone Alarm Outlook Mail Buddy. To do that? In Microsoft Outlook navigate via Tools > Options>Other> Advanced Options > Com Add-Ins. Remove the tick from MailBuddy Outlook Addin. This will remove the problem. To restore MailBuddy Outlook Addin just replace the tick.
Now reboot your system and Zone Alarm 7.0.337 will function as intended (minus the e-mail protection--which isn't that great anyway). Hope it works for you-- like it did for me :)

Did I say thank you?
if you get that zonealarm installation message saying "zpeng24.dll not found", you can simply delete the folder c:\windows\system32\zonelabs and try again. worked for me.
the outlook mailfilter is really not that great. i wish they would give a choice when installing...

I hated the filter. I agree it was a big mistake on their part not to give user choice at the time of installation. But Zone Alarm is still the best free firewall...
Thanks. I unticked the Com Add-in and all is now well.
Awesome - thanks for this. Why they would add this in is beyond me.
Cheers.
thank you - from both me and whats left of my hair!
Thanks for the great info. Check point (ZA) still don't seem to recognise the problem. By the way, deleting the folder as in the below comment worked for me.
May the force be with you...
At first I went to the web to download zpeng24.dll. That worked ok but my computer now takes about 15 min to shut down. It seems to freeze at "Windows is shutting down". I then deleted c:\windows\system32\zonelabs and re-installed ZA Security Suite. My computer still takes 15 min to shuydown. This is a fairly new comp. It never took more than a minute or less to shut down using free ZA with Norton AV. Any suggestions anyboby?
might be incompatible with the two?
I'm not sure what you mean...incompatible with the two. I no longer have Norton AV. It expired. I was using free ZA and Norton AV; Now I use ZA security suite. If I manually shut down ZA and (and it shuts down in a reasonably short time) and then click "turn off computer", it shuts down normally. It seems like the computer is having trouble shutting down ZASS.
I deleted all of ZASS. I put ZA freebie and AVG free AV in my PC. Now this thing runs like I remember!
Many many thanks. Why is it that you can help but Zone Alarm help centre can't?
I came across this problem, looked online, and came across your site. As I was reading the page, some more error messages popped up for which I just clicked ok.
About halfway through reading the comments, ZoneAlarm started reinstalling! I let it continue, and now I have a fully functional copy.
Lesson: if you have this problem, just keep clicking the error messages and the problem will solve itself.
thank you for the solution. Solved my installation problem.
