Jeep Song Commercial: There’s a time for us to let go
I love the song in it, and as usual, I just had to find out who sung it.
So I started with the lyrics I could hear "The lyrics are “There’s a time for us to let go. There’s a time for holding on...."
Then with some luck I discovered, it is a song by Paul van Dyk called "Time of Our Lives"
Here are the full lyrics:
There's a time for us to let go
There's a time for holding on
A time to speak, a time to listen
There's a time for us to go
There's a time for living low down
There's a time for getting high
A time for peace, a time for fightin'
A time to live, a time to die
A time to scream, a time for silence
A time for truth against the lies
A time for fate, a time for science
There's a time for us to shine
There is a time for mis-believing
There's a time to understand
A time for hurt, a time for healing
A time you run, to make a stand
Oh, this is the time of our lives
Oh, this is the time of our lives
Oh, this is the time of our lives
Oh, this is the time of our lives
Oh, this is the time of our lives
Oh, this is the time of our lives
Oh, this is the time of our lives
Oh, this is the time of our lives

Quick Update. Today (July 19th) I received the below email:
Hi there,
Just found your blog on that jeep commercial and just
wondering if you could put the full information of the
track up by any chance.
The track is Paul Van Dyk feat Vega4 (the singer in
the track).
Im just asking this as our album "You and Others" is
coming out 7th of August in the USA and we need all
the help we can get but mostly everywhere doesn't
acknowledge that the song was done with our band (as
it does on PVD's album).
Anyway, hoping you can help out.
Thanks so much,
Bruce
Consider it done!

Thanks so much for making this search an easy one bringing me to your website. This is a fantastic song and the history behind Paul Van Dyk is interesting as well. Hard to believe I had never heard of him! *****
Just have to agree with you, I found a CD and this track was one of them and its just fantastic, Been desperate to find out who it was.
Thank you very much !!!!!
I just bought the song from itunes, but it's the "dance" version. The one on the Jeep commercial is more of a "alternative rock" version.
Anyone know where I can get the latter?
LJ
yeah, I was also looking for this clip and this song - and here it is! Thanks. you da man.
Thanks for posting that! I've been trying to figure out who did that song for a long time now.
Awesome! I thought this was gonna be another "non-existent" and this was the first result from my lyric search! so THANK YOU!!!
fun-facking-tastastic... I heard it LAST NIGHT on the TV and can't get it out of my head... Wonderful... Thank you... (And, uh, where can one get it??)
this song is old- it was a song on sisterhood of the traveling pants and it's also on the soundtrack into the blue!!!
Thanks,
It took me less time than when I was looking for the song used in the insurance company ad (and Pay it Forward) which is Half Acre by HEM incase anyone is wondering.
Wow! The age of cyberspace is awesome. I had heard the song on the new Jeep commercial only a couple of times, and liked it immediately. I didn't know the name, who sang it or all the lyrics.
What I did know, I "Googled" and up popped your website. This website rules. I'll definitely be back. Thanks
Thanks for making it so easy for me to find this song! I kept seeing that commercial and I loved that song!
Great! I've been meaning to find out who sang that song and just as the commerical ran, I got to my laptop, did a search and came right to your site! Just like others have said, THANKS for making my search so easy! (I actually wanted to find out if it was Kurt Nilsen from Norway.)
If you're looking for the commercial version which is just a segment of the tune which actually has a 4:23 run time; the name of the album it's on is Reflections which was produced in 2003.
You can buy it iTunes....
Thank you, Thank you, looked all over for this song. I just love it
I don't understand. This song is not good, nowhere near. What makes you feel that this song is good? It's incredibly bland, and is really nothing new. Anybody with a remedial knowledge of piano, or guitar can write a song like this, and the radio is chock full of them these days. It's very sad to me that this is now what passes for good music. Society is really experiencing a strong cultural mudslide.
To the musical self appointed "genius" who wrote:
"Anybody with a remedial knowledge of piano, or guitar can write a song like this" I say... ok.. what have you written lately? I grew up in a musical family, learned to appreciate everything from the classics to country... worked in the entertainment business for a long time... and, I can tell you that Time Of Our Lives is a decent piece of music. Every one to his and her own tastes, of course... you are certainly entitled to your opinion... I just don't agree with you. Now.. if you wanna talk about the crap that passes for music these days... how about picking on rap and hip hop??
I'll cheer you on there! :)
I think that a good song is one that makes you smile, dance, think or cry. This song made me feel all those things. It is a good song. I am going through the same hard times as anyone else and this song made me feel better. Thank you for finding it.
I can't remember the last time I channel surfed just for a commercial. The textures, the sounds, the feelings - kind of makes me want to run out and buy a Jeep! To be sure, I'll be picking up the CD. Thanks Adrian, and to all who've posted here.
In response to the person that wasn't impressed with this particular tune, I'm guessing that you haven't heard the section that they use in the Jeep commercial. I'm not sure where that particular segment IS yet, but I know that's what got me hooked. The first two lines from the commercial start just like the actual song does, but right after the second line "There's a time for holding on" there's a super-cool, filtered vocal sequeway that floats in immediately with "This is the time" and creates a little bit of magic that sticks in your head until the next time you hear it. If I had only heard the song from the beginning, I might not be that impressed either. It's just your basic E-D-A chord progression thats been done since the 60s or even earlier. It's pretty amazing how one small change can have such a huge impact on the way the brain perceives things like that...
Thanks for looking up this song. Now i can enjoy this with my friends on our way to the Sierra mountains! ur freakin awesome
Too funny, I kept seeing this commercial and I too really like the song they were playing..Thanks for the info..I seem to like the car commercials but research them in the past, but Im glad I did this one..Mrs.T
Thank you sooo much for posting this in your blog! It's been stuck in my head ever since I saw that Jeep commercial. Thank you, thank you and God bless you :)
The Jeep commercial version is a mix by Swiss American Federation. You can hear a clip on their web site, but there doesn't see to be a full length release of the mix anywhere and S.A.F. doesn't answer my email asking about it.
It also has a credit in the movie "Into the Blue", but there's no soundtrack for the movie. Argh! I really like the S.A.F. mix, so if anyone finds it please post!
As it turns out, PVD features whoever sings this song in a lot of his albums. I'm just surprised that mainstream television ventured into the ranks of trance/progressive artists for their background music. You can find this song on Van Dyk's album Reflections.

Yes, #1 in G for "jeep commercial great times". I saw, I searched, I found your aweseome site in like a minute! The net is crazy amazing when you need to find info about anything! Just FYI, iTunes has this album (and others) and there's also a short remix album with 3 remixes of Time of Our Lives, plus two other cool tracks for $6! I got the album...now I just need a new jeep! :)
Thanks for the info,I had heard it on the ad and couldn't get the song out of my head. Paul Van Dyk hs been around for a while.
The song gets much more mileage than the Jeep does.
I've been listening to him for years and had no idea it was his song. This is nowhere near his old genre [trance] music.
I own a Jeep Wrangler soft top and when I saw the commercial & heard the song it brings a smile to my face thinking of all the awesome times I've had with the top down cruising the beach & hanging out with friends. I downloaded the song and will be playing it on the beach this weekend ! Thanx for the great blog so I could find out who did the song. It's great ! Best wishes from the Gulf Coast of Texas !
The track is actually Paul Van Dyk feat Vega4 (the singer on the track) and their album "You and Others" is coming out on the 7th of August in the USA. Well worth grabbing a copy.
Its already out in the UK and Europe
Cheers
Oh my god you have no idea how many times i have tried finding out what the name of that song was. Thank you so much this website was Very helpful :D
~meg
thank you so much i totally love this song and i didnt know the name you were very helpful!
Thanks so much for the info! I was hoping it was real full length song being used. Paul Van Dyk is pretty cool. I had no clue he was involved with this song!
I have a copy of the SAF mix. Not the best sound quality but better than nothing. It is the best mix of it. Mix featured in the commercial. Let me know if you want it.
MJ
Hey you have no idea how happy i was when i found your blog. I kept seeing the commercial and it was botheringg me because i liked the song but couldn't remember anything about it. I only heard it on the sisterhood of the traveling pants movie, but it wasn't on itunes. so when i googled it and saw this i realized the wasn't the only one who wanted to know the name. Thanks soo much! :)
J!
J!
crazy bout this tune, glad i know now who sang it!!! Thanks Very Much!!!!!
Dude, like so many others i have been trying to find out who what where about this song.....thanks, you have no idea how it drove me mad....now i am so happy!!!
Whoo hoo...Finally I can ease up about the song..lol!
Everytime I heard the song on the Jeep commercial I would make everyone in the house try to figure out who it was or the name of the song!!
Thanks for taking the time to figure it all out for me!!!
this is an awesome song!!! i have never looked up a commercial song online, but this is a great song. i thank you for telling me it is and guess what, its available on itunes for anyone that wants to download it.
Great song, and it goes well with the Jeep mindset (yep, you guessed it, I own a Jeep!).
I am just curious as if this is the 'Rdio Edit' version of the song that is one iTunes? Sounds like it; but I want to be sure before I purchase it. The 'PVD's Time To Chill Mix' sound very close to it, as does the 'PVD's Berlin Electro Mix.' The 30-second samples on Amazon doesn't really tell me which is which. Maybe I just need to buy the CD single...
Cheers! M2
this commercial gave me goose bumps. The song is very powerful and relavent.
Thanks for the song info Adrian!
The line is, "A time for peace, a time for fightin'", not fire.
Thank you SO much! The first time I heard this commercial the song went right through me! Hasn't happened since I heard Sara
Mclaughlin for the first time some years ago.
thanks for the correction...
Thanks so much for putting this info up! I'm been searching everywhere for it. Isn't it in the movie, The beach?
While I'm tempted to repeat the praise already posted again and again, let me just add my own thank you...
The haunting feeling the lyrics and music gave me made me certain I'd heard it before, but I couldn't place it. I was I'm certain I'm not the only one who found some connection with this song on a deep level -as it has been used in more than one Jeep commercial, obviously there are others who are banking on it. I'm looking forward to buying it myself (the song, not the Jeep, alas).
Oh, this makes me long for my own jeep. I drove one for sixteen years.
