Global's This Morning Live Cancelled, 250 Others lose Jobs

I don't know if you heard the news. It seems the " This Morning Live" crew won't be smiling much longer. As of April, their show will be canceled according to reports (At least that's what I heard on CJAD late yesterday). That's right. No more Gelareh Darabi or Richard Dagenais in the morning on Global. No more weather from Al Dubois or Lesley Robinson. Cereal won't taste the same! I just can't believe it. What will I watch now to get started in the morning? Canada AM sucks, and CNN doesn't have any local news. Crap. A seven year habit now comes to an end easily. I guess I better enjoy things as long as I can! More info about the layoffs here.

I think that might be a misunderstanding of what is going on. Global is moving most of its technical side to a giant broadcast centre in Toronto, which will mean layoffs for editors, graphic artists and all sorts of other non-editorial jobs.

This Morning Live represents more than 3/4 of Global Quebec's CRTC-mandated local programming. They can't simply cancel it without replacing it with something of equal length or risking their broadcasting license.

It's bad news, but not that bad.

I'm not sure. I heard the show is being canceled. I guess we'll see what happens. Nonetheless, it's still crappy news.

Bring back Gelerah!!! I think it is a terrible decision to take Global off in the Morning. I love that show This Morning Live and it starts my weekdays off with a good laugh and lots of information (news) and weather and traffic is always a highlight with Lezlie. Welcome back to Tracy.
Gelerah where are you going to be on TV. We want to know. Susan in Chateauguay

Living in the townships, Good Morning Live on Global is the only place on tv to get any local newsin English. I shall miss it greatly, not to mention the personable cast & crew.

I was searching for the why's and wherefore's of the cancellation and this blog was my best Google bet.

I can't beleive that Global doesn't get funding from some level of government in order to present English language programing to the angolophone community in Quebec. They are funded to present the ethnic channel. It is my perception (correct me if I'm wrong) that "This morning live" is the only exclusively Montreal perspective on current events in our english speaking community.

I'm afraid that the 10 miniute segments on the hour of Canada AM just doesn't cut it !
I simply can not digest the Ivory Tower attitudes of those Torontonians who claim to represent the general Canadian populace.I can't imagine how Maritimers feel when they watch that exclusive garbage.

I am sad :o( and feeling abandoned. Mornings will be a lot more difficult from now on.

I LOVE having this morning live ... it's much better then CANADA AM. They only focus on stuff in ontario.

But what I dont understand is if This Morning Live was having funding problems, why didnt they host a telathon, or something to help raise the money, something like what PBS does. I believe I can say that 85% of anglophone people, as well as francophone people who watch the show would have been more than happy to donate.

I think we, the people, should start a petition to get TML back on the air. It was the BEST anglo news broadcast in the morning.
Who is with me on this???

Actually... the technical crew from Global BC in Vancouver is controlling the Montreal broadcasts... news gathering and editorial decisions are still done out of Montreal.
